Frequently Asked Questions:
Who is eligible for a parking permit?
Long-term parking permits are available to individuals and businesses that can demonstrate a relationship to the specific area (municipal district) and to the vehicle.
In particular, permits can be obtained by:
Residents
- Czech citizens with permanent residence in the given area (municipal district)
- foreign nationals with registered residence in the given area (for those from outside the EU, a valid residence permit is also required)
Please note: For Czech citizens, mere residence (for example under a lease agreement) does not qualify one for a long-term parking permit.
Subscribers
- legal entities or self-employed individuals (OSVČ) with their registered office or place of business (branch) in the given district
- legal entities or self-employed individuals carrying out contracted work in the district (supported by a contract)
- legal entities or self-employed individuals who own a property in the district that is recorded in the Land Register
Property owners
- natural persons who own a property in the district that is recorded in the Land Register
Additional requirement:
In order to obtain a long-term parking permit, it is necessary to demonstrate a relationship to the vehicle (e.g. ownership, leasing, financing or rental).
Please note: The examples provided are based on the most frequently asked questions. You can find a complete overview of the types of parking permit and conditions for obtaining them under Methodology.
How long can a parking permit be purchased for and how much does it cost?
A long-term parking permit can be issued for a maximum of 1 calendar year.
Duration by permit type:
- Resident parking permit (incl. ZTP/Senior)
- at least 3 months, at most 1 year (variants: 3-month, 6-month, year)
- Subscriber (incl. property owners)
- at least 1 week, at most 1 year (variants: week, 1-month, 3-month, 6-month, year)
The price of a parking permit depends primarily on:
- the type of permit (resident, subscriber, etc.)
- the areas for which the permit is issued
- the number of vehicles with a parking permit in the area (municipal district, i.e. multiple vehicles = higher price)
- eligibility for discounts (e.g. ZTP holders, seniors, zero-emission vehicles)
Find more detailed information in the Price List.
What is a “parking area” and how do I set it?
The parking area determines where exactly you can park with a parking permit.Within the selected area, you have unrestricted parking in blue (residential) and purple (mixed) zones.
Each parking area has its own code (e.g. P5 for Prague 5), which is also displayed on parking signs.
In some locations it is also possible to choose a parking sub-area – a smaller section of the area. A sub-area permit costs less, but is only valid within its confines (e.g. P5.4).
The following applies:
- a permit for a whole area (e.g. P5) allows one to park in all the sub-areas
- a permit for a sub-area is only valid for that particular section of the area
Parking areas may partially overlap. In overlapping sections, permit holders for any of the areas indicated on the signage may park there.
When applying for a parking permit in the Client Zone, the available areas are shown automatically based on the address entered. The system thus only displays areas for which you are eligible.
Displaying an area on the map You can display a (sub-)area on the map on the parking.praha.eu website by selecting “Highlight parking area”. The selected area will be displayed with a colour border, including the specific streets.
What is an “eligibility area”?
The eligibility area determines which parking area you can apply for a parking permit for.The system determines it automatically based on where your permanent residence, registered office or place of business is located.
Put simply:The eligibility area determines which parking areas you are eligible for and which you can choose from when submitting an application.
Eligibility areas:
- have the same code as the corresponding parking area (e.g. P6)
- tend to be larger than the parking area itself, often including the whole municipal district
In some locations it is only possible to apply for a permit for a parking sub-area. In such a case, there is also a corresponding eligibility sub-area that dictates that you can only apply for a permit for this particular section of the area.
Eligibility areas may partially overlap. If your address falls within the overlap of multiple eligibility areas, you can choose which area suits you better when submitting your application.
When applying for a parking permit in the Client Zone, the eligibility areas are shown automatically based on the address entered. The system thus only displays areas for which you are eligible.
Displaying an eligibility area on the map You can display a selected eligibility area on the map on the parking.praha.eu website by selecting “Highlight residential area”. The area will be displayed with a green border, including the specific streets.

What should I do if I have a new vehicle or registration plate?
There are 2 ways you can apply for a permanent change to your vehicle registration plate:
Online
Via the Client Zone.
- on the upper bar “I want to...” choose the option “Permanent change of registration plate”
- fill in the required information, upload the required documents and submit the request
- the request is approved by the permit office (this can take approximately 5 working days)
- once it has been approved, you pay the processing fee (CZK 100)
- once the payment has been matched, you will be issued a confirmation of the parking permit for the new registration plate
In order to have the payment matched quickly, pay in the Client Zone by clicking on “Pay Now” after logging in.
In person
At the relevant parking permit office. Once the necessary documents have been submitted and the processing fee of CZK 100 paid, the change will be carried out.
Recommendation: When submitting a permanent registration plate change online, we recommend also setting up a temporary change of registration plate. This is recorded in the system immediately and covers the time required for the permanent change to be approved by the permit office.
How do I temporarily change the licence plate associated with my permit?
If your vehicle has been temporarily assigned a new registration plate (e.g. while your vehicle is being repaired or while using a replacement vehicle), you must make a temporary change of registration plate in the parking permit system.
A temporary plate change can be made in two ways:
Online
Via the Client Zone. After logging in, on the upper bat “I want to…” choose the option “Temporary change of registration plate”.
Then fill in the required information and submit the request.
Once the temporary change has been inputted, it is valid immediately, no vehicle documents need to be submitted and there is no fee. The only restriction is the duration limit.
Conditions for online temporary change of registration plate:
- 16 days for a year permit
- 8 days for a 6-month permit
- 4 days for a 3-month permit
- 1 day for a 1-month permit
In person
At the relevant parking permit office. A temporary registration plate change made at the permit office requires a CZK 100 processing fee.
- Duration of temporary change: max. 3 months
- Grounds for the change must be provided (e.g. confirmation from the service centre that the original vehicle is undergoing repairs with an expected date of completion).
No proof of relationship to the replacement vehicle is required.
What should I do if my application is rejected?
Parking permit applications are processed by the municipal district permit offices. Queries about rejected applications should thus be directed to the parking permit office for the relevant municipal district. Do not send documents by email to the automatically generated rejection message.
Online
For a rejected application submitted online:
- proceed according to the stated grounds for rejection
- the grounds are stated:
- in the Client Zone (in the Requests section under the rejected request)
- in the notification sent by email
Most frequent reasons for rejection
If the application was rejected due to missing or incomplete documents:
- log in to the Client Zone
- in the section Requests, click on the rejected request
- choose the “Resubmit” option and upload the required documents
- submit the request and wait for it to be processed by the permit office (can take approximately 5 working days)
Additional documents can also be submitted at the parking permit office for the relevant municipal district.
Please note: Even if you are renewing your permit, all the required documents must be provided in current and valid form. Renewal is considered a “follow-up” application, and in a legal sense is a new application.
How and where can I cancel my parking permit?
A parking permit can only be terminated early in person at the parking permit office for the municipal district where it was issued.
The following conditions apply:
- a permit cannot be cancelled online or by email
- a processing fee of CZK 100 is charged for the cancellation
- a proportional refund is provided for any full unused months
If you are cancelling on behalf of someone else, you must provide a power of attorney (some permit offices may require a certified signature).
Please note: The parking permit is automatically terminated when the time for which it was issued elapses. If you are not interested in renewing it, you do not need to do anything.
How can I get notifications about my parking permit?
If you wish to receive notifications concerning your parking permit (such as reminders that it is about to expire), do not forget to provide your email address.
When visiting a permit office in person, you will likely be asked to provide your email address by the permit office employee.
When applying online, you must fill in your email address in the profile section of the Client Zone by clicking on your name and surname in the red box.
Please note: Notification emails are sent automatically. Due to the settings of third-party email providers, delivery cannot always be guaranteed. Current information on your requests is always available in the Client Zone.
